Shrabanti Das

A graded artist of Doordharshan, Kolkata, Shrabanti is a National Scholarship Holder. With a Masters degree in Kathak form Rabindra Bharti University, she has been a student of eminent Kathak practitioners in the country. From winning a national scholarship in 2001 to shining at a Youth Festival in West Bengal in 2008, from traveling across the country for performances to training budding dancers, her list of achievements is endless. The burning desire to emerge as a leading choreographer in classical and modern dance forms makes Shrabanti the powerhouse of talent that she is.

Around the age of three, when her uncle discovered her need for a good appetite owing to her tiny stature, he suggested she learn a dance form. What began as an exercise in survival turned into a deep love for dance. A desire to give back to the people who have stood by her, keeps her going, stronger each day.

She calls herself a learner, and hosts an ardent desire to give back to the art community she belongs to, recalling her own gurus as she gets teary eyed. Thirty years in the field, she believes in working harder to pass on skills generations to come. When she performs, you are filled with awe. Like her drawing, every move of hers on stage says a story. The dance steps on stick figures are an outpour of emotions that she feels for her art form.
